The NanoSpectroscopy Group of MSEP - CS is now accepting applicants for the Summer Internship Program on Nanomaterials. The program is open to high school and college students wishing to gain hands - on experience on synthesis and characterization of nanomaterials. Material platforms to be covered include noble metal, semiconductor and magnetic nanoparticles. Synergistic coupling of these nanoparticles has tremendous impact on energy storage and ultrasensitive detection applications.

Winning the Australia-APEC Women in Research Fellowship

The Australia−APEC Women in Research Fellowship is funded by the Department of Education and Training to provide financial support for high achieving female researchers from developing APEC economies to pursue research opportunities in partnership with Australian education and research institutions.

Out of 44 submitted project proposals, the organization chose only 10 winners. I will have the opportunity to carry out my research in the Institute of Frontier Materials in Deakin University under the supervision of Dr. Joe Razal. The project aims to identify alternative solutions for testing water quality and remediation. We employ gold, silver and graphene as potential materials for this task due to their individually strong qualifications in sensing applications. Au/Ag - Graphene incorporated in robust fibers is a viable platform for multifunctional, low-cost, and rapid environmental sensors.

With the added research training, I can be a much better mentor to my students, which I consider one of my primary roles.
